Former Barcelona defender Marc Cucurella has shared his thoughts on why Nico Williams snubbed a move to the Catalans this summer.
Williams looked set to swap Athletic for Barcelona, and seemed to initiate the whole saga, but ended up signing a long-term extension at Ernesto Valverde’s side.
Cucurella thinks the whole transfer fell apart because Williams was worried about Barca not being able to register him for the season.
“I think he was just afraid that he wouldn’t be registered,” he told Gerard Romero.
Cucurella was then asked what he would do in a similar situation and admits it’s a tricky question to answer.
“If Barcelona came for me? I don’t know...” he added.
“And what if they can’t register you—what do you do then? Even if they promise they’ll register you, these days I don’t trust anyone.”
Barcelona have added Joan Garcia, Roony Bardghji and (almost) Marcus Rashford but still have work to do to register all three for the new campaign.
