The Wake Forest Baseball team added to their list of 1st round draft picks on Sunday night, when Marek Houston and Ethan Conrad were drafted in back-to-back picks, going 16th and 17th overall respectively. The duo gives the Deacs seven 1st round selections in the past 3 years, joining Chase Burns, Nick Kurtz, Seaver King, Rhett Lowder and Brock Wilken.

Houston was drafted
with the 16th pick by the Minnesota Twins. In 3 seasons at Wake Forest, Houston played in 180 games for the Deacs. In his junior season, Houston had career highs in batting average (.354), hits (86), RBIs (66) and home runs (15). His improved hitting combined with his stellar defense is why Twins scouting director Sean Johnson called Houston “the best college shortstop on the board.”

The very next pick, the Chicago Cubs took OF Ethan Conrad. Conrad spent just 1 season at Wake Forest after transferring from Marist. In 21 games with the Deacs, Conrad had a .372 batting average and hit 7 home runs and 27 RBIs. Sadly, his season was cut short due to shoulder surgery in April.
Congratulations to Marek and Ethan!
Go Deacs!
