The San Antonio Spurs’ summer team is three wins away from a Las Vegas Summer League championship. This year’s team has depth, defense, and on-ball scoring, making them a threat to beat any other summer roster and a fun watch in an otherwise dull part of the NBA offseason.
There have been a handful of standout players on the team. The Spurs’ first-round draft picks, Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant, have shown flashes of what made them lottery selections. Harper has been good with the ball in his hands
and is a surprisingly tough defender. Bryant has shut down opposing players, but struggled to find his rhythm offensively.
The team is mainly made up of G League players. A few of them have really popped in the last few weeks. David Jones-Garcia is making a name for himself and making a real case for a roster spot on some NBA team. Riley Minix has played a role that’s translatable to the NBA, shooting the ball from deep, competing defensively, and rebounding well.
