UFC 319 finally has a co-main event.
According to an announcement during UFC Abu Dhabi’s broadcast on Saturday, UFC featherweight contender, Lerone Murphy, will put his undefeated record on the line in a co-headliner against former Bellator MMA standout and new UFC signee, Aaron Pico.
In case you forgot, Pico was supposed to compete at UFC Abu Dhabi this weekend in a matchup against undefeated featherweight Movsar Evloev. Unfortunately, Evloev was forced to pull out of the fight due to a health condition.
UFC matchmakers did not bring in a replacement to keep Pico on the card. Instead, Pico was lobbying for his fight with Evloev to be rebooked for UFC 319 next month in Chicago, Illinois.
While Pico will get his wish to compete on the upcoming UFC 319 pay-per-view (PPV) card it will not come against Evloev.
Instead, Pico will be matched up against Murphy, who remains undefeated in his pro career. This includes a 8-0-1 UFC record and a recent main event showcase against Josh Emmett this past April. It’s a great matchup on paper and a co-main event that should deliver from the opening bell.
UFC 319, which goes down on Aug. 16 from inside United Center in Chicago, will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between current UFC champion Dricus du Plessis and undefeated sensation Khamzat Chimaev.
