The Cleveland Browns were dealt another blow in the linebacker room for 2025, with veteran leader Jordan Hicks announcing his retirement at the age of 33.

Hicks missed the first two days of training camp for what the team described as “personal reasons,” and we now know that it was likely due to his contemplation of retirement. Though he only played one season in Cleveland, he was very effective in his 12 starts in 2024.

He totaled 78 tackles, 4 TFL, 5 QB hits, 4 pass deflections, and 2 sacks while

missing 5 games with nagging elbow, rib, and triceps injuries.

Needless to say, it's time for the Browns’ younger players in the linebacker room to step up and prove that they can contribute at a high level heading into the season.

If Carson Schwesinger, Cleveland’s 2nd-round pick, wasn’t a “lock” to start at MIKE before, he certainly is now. Devin Bush is most likely going to start at SAM while Jerome Baker and Mohamoud Diabate compete for time as Jim Schwartz’s 3rd linebacker in base/sub-packages.
