NBA executives and scouts are not overly impressed by Yang Hansen, the Portland Trail Blazers
’ selection from the 2025 NBA Draft. The Blazers traded down from the 11th spot to take Yang at 16. He had a reasonably good Summer League, displaying a nice passing touch, particularly for a seven-footer. But according to a recent poll of 20 execs conducted by ESPN, Yang is a non-factor among his draft classmates. It’s no surprise that Dallas Mavericks pick Cooper Flagg dominated the Rookie of the Year predictions
with 17 votes. Only Dylan Harper and Tre Johnson got votes in that category at all.
Yang did receive a single vote in the “Best Pick Besides Flagg” category, which was won by Philadelphia 76ers selection VJ Edgecombe with 10 votes.
The field was wide open for Yang in the “Biggest Draft Steal” category. He received no votes. The category was won by the Spurs’ other first-rounder, Carter Bryant. 14 total players received at least one vote.
Yang did receive four votes, and second place overall, in the “Biggest Draft Reach” category, won by Brooklyn Nets pick Egor Demin.
Even with the positivity surrounding Yang in Portland right now, the rookie center has plenty to prove.
