U of L has confirmed that junior cornerback Tayon Holloway has officially been reinstated as a member of the Cardinal football team.
“University of Louisville student-athlete Tayon Holloway has been reinstated to the football program after the conclusion of his legal matter,” a statement from the school said.
Holloway was suspended from the team in November of last season after being arrested and charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault. The arrest came just hours after Holloway committed
a late personal foul penalty that allowed Stanford to kick a game-winning field goal and pull off a stunning 38-35 upset win over Louisville.
In late March, the strangulation charge was dismissed and the assault charge was downgraded to second degree disorderly conduct. Holloway pled guilty to the disorderly conduct charge. A statement from his attorneys at the end of the legal matter stated that Holloway was “eager” continue his college football career and that he was “hopeful” that said career would continue at the University of Louisville.
Outside of the mistake against Stanford, Holloway — who spent two seasons at North Carolin before transferring to U of L — had enjoyed an extremely promising first year with the Cardinals. He appeared in all 10 games before his suspension and made four starts.
Holloway finished the 2024 season with 16 tackles and five pass breakups. His biggest moment as a Cardinal came when he blocked a field goal attempt and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown in Louisville’s 31-19 win over Georgia Tech.
