Jorge Gonzalez, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound offensive tackle from Santa Paula High School, spent his summer working in the wheat fields of Santa Barbara. During a mandatory two-week break from football, Gonzalez used a weed whacker for eight hours a day to earn money for a car. The Santa Paula community is deeply involved in agriculture, and many players, including Gonzalez, have worked in the fields. Gonzalez, a three-year starter with a 3.8 GPA, attended the Tri County League media day in Ventura, alongside players from Agoura, Hueneme, Dos Pueblos, San Marcos, and Fillmore. Coaches Myke Morales and Charles Weis discussed the longstanding rivalry between Santa Paula and Fillmore, emphasizing its importance as a community event.
