The California Department of Industrial Relations has allocated $26 million in grants to 25 construction apprenticeship programs as part of the Equal Representation in Construction Apprenticeship (ERiCA) initiative. The grants will be used in three main areas: $11.8 million for childcare costs for apprentices, $7.2 million for targeted recruitment to improve gender representation, and $7 million for worksite culture improvements, including mentoring and mental health support. Notable recipients include Cerritos College, which received $1.25 million for its ironwork apprenticeship program, and the Los Angeles and Orange Counties Building Trades Council, which received $2.5 million for various support initiatives.
