Dr. James R. Webster Jr., a respected pulmonologist and community leader, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Chicago on August 25, 1931, Webster had a distinguished career at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he held several leadership roles, including Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff. He also served as President of the Chicago Board of Health and was actively involved with CommunityHealth, the nation's largest free clinic. Webster was an army veteran who achieved the rank of captain and received a commendation medal. He was also an author, publishing a book of fiction titled 'The Last Grasp' and numerous research and opinion pieces. Webster was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan and played baseball as a catcher during his college years. He is survived by his brother, Stephen; his children, Susan and John; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service is scheduled for October 10 at the Louis A. Simpson and Kimberly Querrey Biomedical Research Center in Chicago.
