Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's decision to move to the U.K. was rumored to have been influenced by the 2024 presidential election results. talk show host says Trump wasn't the reason she and de Rossi bought their house in the Cotswolds, DeGeneres verified he was an incentive to remain across the pond indefinitely.

At first, they thought they would only be staying in the U.K. for a few months out of the year. "We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, 'He got in,'" she told Bacon. "And we're like, 'We're staying here.'" The couple bought their first property in the English countryside in 2024, but were forced to move to a luxury mansion 30 minutes away from their first home because of significant damage, per the Daily Mail. DeGeneres and de Rossi have since set up quite a nice life in the hilly region. "It's clean. Everything here is just better — the way animals are treated, people are polite," DeGeneres said. "I just love it here."

The "Ellen" star was just one of many Hollywood stars to flee the U.S. after Donald Trump's election victory over former vice president Kamala Harris. Actor America Ferrera moved to London with her husband and children in November 2024. A source told the Daily Mail that "America is sick that Donald Trump is president again." Rosie O'Donnell moved to Ireland with her son in January. The comedian, who has been very outspoken about her disdain for Trump online, revealed the move in a TikTok video, saying, "When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that's when we will consider coming back."

Earlier this month, Trump threatened to revoke O'Donnell's citizenship on Truth Social. The former "View" co-host clapped back on Instagram, calling the president "King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan," referring to the young tyrant in "Game of Thrones." Although O'Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres were in a well-known feud, the latter voiced her support for her comedic peer, reposting O'Donnell's words on her Instagram, writing, "Good for you @rosie."
