What's Happening?
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced the disbursement of Rs. 288.85 crore in loans to 2,597 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as part of its bank linkage program. Additionally, Rs. 1.15 crore has been sanctioned to 155 individuals through the Self-Employment Programme (SEP) to support the establishment of microenterprises. This initiative was revealed during the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the GHMC head office, where Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi emphasized the government's commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. The GHMC has also formed 3,460 new SHGs this year. The Mayor highlighted success stories, including transgender youth securing jobs after training in graphic design and women receiving driving licenses to support their livelihoods. Plans for Indiramma Canteens and a Civil Registration System Portal were also announced.
