The European Investment Bank (EIB) has provided a £3 million funding boost to enhance electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in north-west Scotland. This initiative, part of the EV Infrastructure Fund, aims to foster collaboration between public and private sectors to improve access to EV charging in rural and island communities. The project is led by HITRANS (Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership) and involves councils from Argyll and Bute, Orkney, Shetland, and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles). The Scottish Government has invested over £65 million in public EV charging infrastructure since 2011, achieving its target of 6,000 public charge points by October 2024, two years ahead of schedule.
