What's Happening?
The Barapukuria Coal Mine, located in the north-western region, has commenced a new phase of coal extraction. This initiative aims to produce approximately 3.94 lakh tonnes of hydrocarbon over the next year. The extraction process was restarted after a one-and-a-half-month hiatus, with full operations resuming on Sunday following a successful trial run on Saturday. The state-run Barapukuria Coal Mining Company, led by Managing Director M Abu Taleb Farazi, has installed and adjusted new machinery and equipment to facilitate this phase. Previously, the mine extracted 5.10 lakh tonnes of coal from January to June this year. The mine serves as a critical fuel source for the adjacent Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant, which generates electricity.
