Rainy Weather Doesn't Dampen Evanston's Annual Egg Hunt
Despite early morning rain showers and brisk temperatures, over 200 children participated in the annual egg hunt at Evanston's Ladd Arboretum on April 4, 2026. The event, organized by the Ecology Center, featured hand-painted wooden eggs instead of plastic ones to promote sustainability. Children were tasked with collecting as many eggs as possible to return to Mother Wood Duck's nest, a tradition that has been ongoing for nearly 20 years. The egg hunt was divided into four waves to accommodate high demand, with the first wave starting at 10 a.m. Families also engaged in various nature-themed activities, including scavenger hunts and games, emphasizing environmental stewardship.
