Midwest Braces for Storms, Heat Through Next Week
Severe thunderstorms will return to the Upper Midwest on Friday, bringing the threat of large hail, damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours. After a brief break on Saturday, a heat dome will fuel additional rounds of storms from Sunday through Wednesday across the Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast. Flash flooding is possible where repeated storms produce 1–2 inches of rain or more, while intense summer heat spreads across much of the northern U.S. into next week.
