Life-Threatening Flash Flooding Hits Albuquerque Metro Area
Heavy thunderstorms swept through the Albuquerque metro area on Friday evening, causing life-threatening flash flooding. At 6:06 p.m. MDT, gauges reported that the Embudo Arroyo rose above 10 feet, prompting immediate warnings from authorities. Rainfall in the affected areas ranged from 0.5 to 1.5 inches, with an additional inch possible. The flash flooding has impacted creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, creating hazardous conditions for residents and travelers. The warning covers Albuquerque, Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, North Valley, Sandia Heights, South Valley, and Alameda, as well as sections of Interstate 40 and Interstate 25.
