Air India Raises Fuel Surcharges Amid U.S.-Iran Conflict Impact
Air India has increased fuel surcharges on both domestic and international flights due to a significant rise in jet fuel prices, attributed to the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict. The airline's CEO, Campbell Wilson, recently resigned, highlighting the operational and financial challenges faced by the Indian aviation sector. The conflict has severely disrupted airspace in the Gulf region, leading to rerouted flights and increased operational costs. As a result, Indian airlines have canceled over 10,000 flights in the past month, with daily flights to the Middle East dropping from 350 to 80-90. IndiGo, India's largest airline, saw its shares rise by 11% following a temporary ceasefire announcement between the U.S. and Iran, which is expected to ease some of the sector's woes.
