Joy Powers Challenges Congressman Morgan Griffith to Three Debates in Virginia's Ninth District
Democratic nominee for Congress, Joy Powers, has formally challenged incumbent Congressman Morgan Griffith to participate in three public debates across Virginia’s Ninth Congressional District. The challenge was issued in a letter sent directly to Griffith, proposing one debate in far Southwest Virginia, one in the New River Valley, and one on the eastern end of the district. Powers emphasized that these debates would allow voters to directly question both candidates on critical issues such as health care, data centers, jobs, agriculture, energy costs, education, Social Security, and Medicare, as well as the future of Southwest Virginia's communities. The call for debates comes as nearly 37,000 residents in the district are projected to lose health coverage due to legislation supported by Congressman Griffith, with a significant portion of these losses expected from Medicaid. Powers has requested Griffith to accept the debate challenge by September 5.
