East Coast Faces Severe Thunderstorms and Flash Flooding Amid Heat Wave
The East Coast is bracing for another round of severe thunderstorms and potential flash flooding from Friday through the weekend. This weather pattern follows recent heavy rainfall that affected millions in the region. A high-pressure system off the coast is driving moisture northward, creating conditions ripe for thunderstorms. Rainfall rates could reach up to 2.5 inches per hour in the most intense storms. Areas that do not experience rain will face extreme heat and humidity, with heat index values potentially exceeding 100 degrees in cities from Philadelphia to Boston. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms, particularly affecting the I-95 corridor from New York City to Washington, D.C.
