IOM Reports Nearly 100,000 Displaced in Sudan's Blue Nile State Amid Escalating Conflict
The UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported a significant increase in displacement within Sudan's southeastern Blue Nile state. Since January, an estimated 99,277 people, comprising 19,497 families, have been displaced due to escalating fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This figure represents a 66% increase from the IOM's previous update in May, which recorded 59,742 displaced individuals. Nearly half of those displaced, 47%, are children under the age of 18. The primary localities affected by displacement include Geissan (39,570 people), Kurmuk (32,515 people), and Bau (27,192 people). The displaced population has moved to seven different locations within Blue Nile state, with Damazin receiving 45,740 people and Geissan receiving 15,735.
