Gulbenkian Museum's Renovation Enhances Art Display and Visitor Experience
The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon has undergone a significant renovation to restore its original architectural vision while enhancing the visitor experience. The museum, which houses a diverse collection ranging from ancient Egyptian artifacts to 18th-century French art, has been updated to improve its spatial flow and connection with the surrounding landscape. Key changes include the removal of partition walls in the European galleries to create a sense of transparency and the installation of advanced UV-filtering glass to protect the artworks. The renovation also reinstated a slatted screen between galleries to maintain visual continuity and replaced hardwood floors with fitted carpets to enhance the visitor experience. These updates aim to amplify the museum's unique relationship between architecture, art, and nature.
