Illegal Immigrant Sentenced for Identity Theft and Voting in U.S. Elections
Carlos Felipe Jaramillo-Grajales, an illegal immigrant from Colombia, has been sentenced to three years in prison for identity theft and falsely claiming U.S. citizenship. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Jaramillo-Grajales used a stolen identity to participate in U.S. elections for approximately 20 years. His scheme began in March 2003 when he obtained a passport using a U.S. citizen's name, date of birth, and Social Security number. He then used this false information to acquire a Florida driver’s license and register to vote, casting a ballot in the 2020 election and others. Investigators also revealed that he utilized the stolen identity for other purposes, including securing lawful permanent residence for his fiancée in June 2017, who later became his wife.
