NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Deadly Crash Killing Five Colorado Teenagers
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued its preliminary report regarding the fatal crash that resulted in the deaths of five 17-year-old boys in Grand Junction, Colorado. The incident occurred on August 8, just before midnight, on Lookout Lane in Orchard Mesa. According to investigators, the 2003 Cadillac CTS carrying the teenagers failed to navigate a leftward curve in the road. The vehicle then departed the roadway, rolled over, descended a steep embankment, and went over a cliff face before crashing onto the rocky surface below. All five occupants sustained fatal injuries, and their bodies were discovered the following day. Police reported that three of the teenagers were wearing seatbelts, while two were not. The victims were students at Grand Junction High School in Mesa County Valley School District 51. The NTSB's preliminary findings indicate that the posted speed limit on Lookout Lane is 20 mph, and the area of the crash features multiple curves and a significant drop-off.
