Tropical Disturbance in Northern Gulf May Bring Rain to Texas
A tropical disturbance located over the northern Gulf of Mexico, south of the Florida Panhandle and Mississippi, is showing signs of increased organization, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). As of Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 2:30 PM CDT, satellite imagery and wind data indicate the system has developed deep convection near its broad circulation. The NHC reports a 50% probability of further development, with the potential for a short-lived tropical depression or tropical storm to form before the system reaches the upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coasts on Tuesday or Tuesday evening. The system is being steered westward by a heat dome currently centered over the middle Mississippi Valley, with forecasts suggesting it will eventually curve northwest into north-central Texas later in the week.
