Maryland Announces 2026 Tax-Free Week with $1,000 Contest for Shoppers
Maryland has announced its 2026 Tax-Free Week, scheduled from August 9 to August 15, offering residents a chance to save on back-to-school shopping. During this period, the state's 6% sales tax will not apply to qualifying clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item. Additionally, the first $40 of a backpack's purchase price will be exempt from sales tax. Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman emphasized the importance of these savings for families and local businesses, highlighting the economic benefits for communities. To further engage residents, a video contest has been introduced, allowing participants to win up to $1,000 by sharing money-saving tips during Tax-Free Week. Participants must submit their videos by August 12, with winners announced on August 14.
