Duluth Superior Pride Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Expanded Festival and Mayoral Recognition
The Duluth Superior Pride festival is marking its 40th anniversary with an expanded celebration, featuring 28 events over the course of the weekend and beyond. The festivities include a new 'Over the Rainbow Market' with local artisans and makers among 150 vendors, as well as local bands, artists, and drag performers. A significant development this year is the return of the Mayors' Reception to Duluth, where the mayors of Duluth, Superior, and Two Harbors will issue proclamations to officially commence the Pride celebrations. This marks a notable shift from the past, as the first recognition of Gay and Lesbian Pride Days in 1989 was issued by Minnesota Governor Rudy Perpich, after local mayors either declined or did not respond to requests. The celebration aims to be inclusive, offering a variety of activities for all ages, including a youth art show and a youth dance, alongside events for adults.
