Texas and California Lead as Top States for Hobby Farming in 2026
A recent study has ranked Texas as the best state for hobby farming in 2026, followed by California, Arkansas, Idaho, and Georgia. The study evaluated 48 contiguous states based on factors like yard size, climate suitability, and access to farm-related services. Texas and California excelled due to their long growing seasons and access to agricultural supplies. However, challenges such as water quality issues and bird flu outbreaks were noted. The Midwest also performed well, with reliable livestock availability and active farmers markets.
