Eight Indicted in $5 Million Retail Theft Ring Targeting Cheese, Beef, and Cigarettes
Eight individuals have been indicted in New York for their involvement in a large-scale retail theft operation that allegedly stole nearly $5 million worth of goods, including cheese, beef, and cigarettes. The Manhattan district attorney's office announced the charges, describing the operation as a 'wide-ranging retail theft ring' that impersonated legitimate shipping carriers to steal goods from logistics sites in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey. The stolen items were then sold on the black market in New York City. The indictment details how the group used fraudulently obtained shipment information and coordinated with hacker groups to execute the thefts, which took place between October 2025 and April 2026.
