Tornado Watch and Flash Flood Warnings Issued for NYC and Surrounding Areas
Severe weather conditions are impacting New York City and surrounding areas, with a tornado watch in effect for all five boroughs until 9:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Additionally, a flash flood warning has been issued for Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens until 7:15 p.m., and for the Bronx and Queens until 7:30 p.m. The National Weather Service (NWS) has reported heavy rainfall of 1 to 2 inches, which could lead to flooding on highways, streets, and low-lying areas. Westchester County is also under a flash flood warning until 6:45 p.m. and a tornado watch until 9:00 p.m. NYC Emergency Management has emphasized that while tornadoes are rare in the city, current atmospheric conditions could allow one to form.
