Maryland Reports Record-Breaking Heat-Related Deaths
Maryland is experiencing its deadliest heat season on record, with 50 heat-related deaths reported since May. This surpasses the previous record of 46 deaths in 2012. The Maryland Department of Health attributes the high number of fatalities to extreme heat conditions, particularly in July, which saw 43 deaths. The department urges residents to stay hydrated, seek cooling centers, and check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. The heat season, which runs through September, may see further fatalities if conditions persist.
