U.S. House Science Committee Advances NASA Authorization Bill Amid Geopolitical Competition
The U.S. House Science Committee has unanimously approved a bill to reauthorize NASA, emphasizing the need for the agency to remain focused on growing geopolitical competition, particularly from China. The bill, which passed with a 37-0 vote, aims to ensure that NASA continues to lead in space exploration and maintain the spirit of discovery that defines the United States. The legislation mandates NASA to prepare a wide range of reports, including monitoring the development of commercial lunar landers for the Artemis campaign and spacesuits for Artemis missions and the ISS. The bill also includes numerous amendments, such as those encouraging the commercial use of space and the establishment of a lunar base by 2030. The bill now moves to the full House for consideration.
