Luxury Resale Market Faces Security Challenges After Louis Vuitton Bag Theft in Chicago
A rare vintage 1987 Louis Vuitton Cartouchiere handbag, valued at $725, was stolen from a vendor's booth at Chicago's Randolph Street Market. The theft occurred when John Crispino, owner of JCR Luxury, briefly stepped away from his booth. This incident is part of a larger trend of thefts affecting small businesses at outdoor markets, with Crispino reporting nearly $5,000 worth of merchandise stolen over the past year. In response, he has begun locking display items, bringing fewer high-end bags to markets, and raising prices. Crispino is actively searching resale sites and collaborating with other vintage dealers to recover the stolen bag.
