The United States Department of State has updated its travel advisory, placing 23 countries on its highest-risk Level 4 list, advising American citizens to avoid all travel to these destinations due to extreme security threats. This advisory is part of a global security notice issued through the State Department's TravelGov platform. The Level 4 designation is reserved for areas experiencing active conflict, high rates of violent crime, or where local infrastructure severely limits the U.S. government's ability to provide emergency consular assistance. Among the 23 countries listed, 11 are located in Africa, including Sudan, South Sudan, and Uganda. The advisory urges travelers to review the full list of restricted destinations before planning any international travel.
