Southern Arkansas University Nursing Faculty Receives Grant for Student Wellness Research
Dr. Alice Fanning, an associate professor of nursing at Southern Arkansas University (SAU), has been awarded an $1,100 research grant from the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Gamma Xi At-Large Chapter. The grant will fund a research project titled 'Enhancing Health and Well-Being During Transition: An Intervention for First-Semester Nursing Students.' This 12-week study aims to understand how intentional wellness interventions can help students navigate the demanding transition into nursing school. The project focuses on supporting students' physical, emotional, and psychological well-being while encouraging the development of sustainable self-care practices. To facilitate this, Dr. Fanning has established a dedicated Wellness Room within the SAU Department of Nursing, offering students a space to decompress, recharge, and participate in activities designed to reduce stress and promote resilience.
