EF-1 Tornado Hits Homewood and Flossmoor Amid Severe Storms
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago confirmed that five tornadoes, including an EF-1, struck the region during a severe storm system on August 11, 2026. The EF-1 tornado traveled 22 miles from Orland Park, Illinois, through Country Club Hills, Flossmoor, Homewood, Glenwood, Lansing, and Munster, Indiana, before dissipating. The storm system also produced straight-line winds nearing 100 mph, causing widespread damage and power outages. As of August 12, 2026, 96% of Flossmoor and 70% of Homewood were without power.
