Everyday Sun Exposure Linked to Skin Cancer Risks, Experts Warn
According to a report from HuffPost, dermatologists and skin cancer specialists are emphasizing the risks of everyday sun exposure, which often goes unnoticed by the public. Dr. Aubriana McEvoy, a Mohs surgeon, highlighted that incidental sun exposure, such as through car windows or during routine outdoor activities, can lead to significant skin damage over time. This damage is often asymmetrical, with the left side of the body more affected in countries where drivers sit on the left. Experts also pointed out that areas like the scalp, eyelids, and hands are frequently overlooked when applying sunscreen, leaving them vulnerable to UV damage. The report underscores that even short, unprotected periods in the sun can accumulate into thousands of hours of exposure over decades, increasing the risk of skin cancer and premature aging. Dermatologists recommend making sun protection a daily habit, regardless of weather conditions or perceived sun intensity.
