Australian Scientist Names Four New Insect Species After Taylor Swift
Four newly identified insect species discovered in Australia have been named after Taylor Swift by Sarah Schroeder, a doctoral student in entomology at the University of California, Riverside. These tiny plant-eating bugs form a new genus called 'Swiftiephylus,' a tribute to the singer and her fans, known as 'Swifties.' The individual species are named 'Swiftiephylus taylorae,' 'Swiftiephylus amator,' 'Swiftiephylus intrepidus,' and 'Swiftiephylus poetorum,' referencing Swift herself and her albums 'Lover,' 'Fearless,' and 'The Tortured Poets Department.' The insects are pale yellow with red markings, which Schroeder noted as echoing Swift's signature blonde hair and red lipstick.
