Climate Resilience Lags in Food Industry Strategies
A recent report from Lumina Intelligence highlights a significant gap in climate resilience planning within the global food and beverage industry. While 54% of senior leaders and decision-makers across the sector recognize the importance of climate resilience, only 6% have integrated it into their corporate strategies. The report surveyed 250 leaders in food, drink, and ingredient manufacturing across the US, China, UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Regulatory uncertainty, particularly around sustainability reporting, is cited as a major barrier to investment in resilience initiatives. Additionally, the report reveals a disconnect within companies, with supply chain teams driving most of the action (53.2%) while R&D and leadership lag behind. Short-term financial expectations further hinder long-term resilience projects, and critical areas like water technologies and crop breeding remain underfunded compared to robotics and AI.
