Nova Launcher Introduces AI Assistant with Subscription Model, Raising Privacy Concerns
Nova Launcher, a popular Android customization tool, is undergoing a significant transformation with the introduction of a built-in AI assistant in its latest beta version, v8.6.8. This AI assistant, named 'Nova AI', is designed to provide contextual insights based on user data such as calendar, contacts, and app usage. The new feature is part of a shift from a simple launcher to a proactive agent, requiring deep access to personal data including SMS conversations, location, and call history. Additionally, Nova Launcher is introducing a 'Nova Plus' subscription tier, offering higher AI limits and faster responses, separate from the existing 'Nova Prime' purchase. This move follows the acquisition of Nova Launcher by Swedish company Instabridge, which aims to establish a sustainable business model. The AI assistant will feature a dedicated chat interface, Google account integration, and privacy-centric toggles, allowing users to control data sharing and manage their AI data.
