Red Flag Warning Issued for Eastern West Virginia and Shenandoah Valley
The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of eastern West Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley due to a combination of hot, dry, and windy conditions. This warning is in effect until 7 PM EDT on April 16, 2026. The conditions include southwest winds ranging from 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, and relative humidity levels dropping as low as 20 percent. These factors contribute to an increased risk of wildfires, as any fire that develops could spread rapidly. Fuel moisture levels are reported to be between 7 to 8 percent, further exacerbating the fire risk.
