Patrick County Recovering from Severe Flooding
Patrick County, Virginia, and surrounding areas, including Carroll County and Mount Airy, North Carolina, are in recovery after experiencing severe flooding caused by over seven inches of rain in a 24-hour period. The flooding, concentrated near Ararat and the Dan River, caused significant damage to infrastructure and homes. Three bridges managed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) were destroyed, along with two homes. Additionally, debris from the Dan River has impacted properties along Kibler Valley Road. Local officials and residents have mobilized to provide immediate assistance, with civic organizations and volunteers offering food and support to affected families. Efforts are also underway to repair damaged infrastructure and comply with updated FEMA floodplain maps.
