Rep. Judy Chu Seeks Answers on VA Mental Health Workforce Reductions
Representative Judy Chu, along with 62 House Democrats, has sent a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Doug Collins, requesting information on the reduction of the Veterans Health Administration's (VHA) behavioral and mental health workforce. The letter highlights significant staffing losses since the Trump Administration, including over 300 psychologists and 700 social workers. These reductions have led to longer wait times and disrupted care for veterans, many of whom suffer from serious mental health conditions. The letter emphasizes the critical need for a stable mental health workforce to support veterans' well-being and calls for detailed responses on staffing levels and recruitment efforts.
