Recycling in the U.S. Faces Challenges Despite Public Support
Recycling in the United States is facing significant challenges, with only 9% of plastic being recycled despite widespread public support for the practice. While 73% of U.S. households have access to curbside recycling, only 43% actively participate, and a large portion of recyclables are lost at the household level. Companies like TerraCycle are working to address these issues by partnering with brands to recycle hard-to-process waste into new products. However, the financial viability of recycling certain materials remains a barrier, leading to many items ending up in landfills.
