USDA Offers Drought Relief Programs to Louisiana Farmers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is providing a range of assistance programs to help Louisiana farmers cope with ongoing drought conditions. These programs aim to support agricultural operations facing stress on crops, livestock, land, and water supplies. The USDA's initiatives include the Livestock Forage Disaster Program, which assists livestock producers who have suffered grazing losses due to drought. Eligible producers must report grazing land acreage by July 15, 2026, and submit applications for payment by March 1, 2027. Additionally, the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program covers increased costs for hauling water, feed, or moving livestock, with applications due by March 1, 2027.
