Karnataka Bans Junk Food Near Schools to Combat Childhood Obesity
The Karnataka government has issued an advisory banning the sale and promotion of junk food within a 50-meter radius of schools and colleges. This move aims to create healthier food environments for students amid rising concerns over childhood obesity and lifestyle-related illnesses. The advisory, issued by the State's Food Safety and Drug Administration, extends beyond school canteens to include vendors outside school gates. It emphasizes the implementation of existing regulations under the Food Safety and Standards (Safe Food and Balanced Diets for Children in School) Regulations, 2020.
