Washington State Faces Severe Flooding, Prompting Emergency Rescues and Evacuations
Washington State is experiencing severe flooding due to an unusually strong atmospheric river that has dumped significant rainfall over the region. This has led to rivers swelling and communities being inundated, particularly in western and central parts of the state. Thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate, and dramatic rescues have been conducted from rooftops and vehicles. The Skagit River, which flows through the farming city of Burlington, crested at a record height, causing widespread flooding. Emergency services, including the National Guard, have been deployed to assist with evacuations and provide aid. The flooding has resulted in road closures, mudslides, and significant property damage, although no fatalities have been reported. President Trump has signed an emergency declaration to provide federal assistance.
