Computer Science Teachers Association Launches $11M AI Training Initiative for Educators
The Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) is initiating a $11 million project to train K-12 educators in artificial intelligence (AI) and foundational computer science skills. This initiative, known as 'AI PD Weeks', will take place over the summer in several states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, New Jersey, and South Carolina, with plans to expand to four more states in the following year. The program is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation as part of an executive order by President Trump aimed at advancing AI education for American youth. The initiative seeks to equip teachers with the necessary skills to integrate AI into their classrooms, addressing the growing need for AI literacy in education. Teachers will participate in hands-on learning and workshops, focusing on machine learning basics, AI system data usage, and the societal and ethical implications of AI.
