Teen Leukemia Survivor Advocates for Cancer Patients on National Stage
Charlotte Nathanson, a 15-year-old leukemia survivor from Cincinnati, is using her personal experience to advocate for other children battling cancer. Nathanson endured 123 days in the hospital and nearly 100 rounds of chemotherapy after her initial diagnosis, which followed a persistent cold and her family's insistence on further testing. Her cancer returned during the COVID-19 pandemic, necessitating a bone marrow transplant, for which her older brother was a match. Now cancer-free, Nathanson is actively involved in advocacy, speaking on Capitol Hill for children with cancer and volunteering for Blood Cancer United, an organization that recognized her with its first-ever Breakthrough Rising Leader Award. She emphasizes the importance of financial and medical access to treatments for all patients, highlighting that many lack these crucial resources.
