Pears Foundation Pledges $2.3 Million to Combat Blindness in Ethiopia
The Pears Foundation, a U.K.-based philanthropic organization, has committed $2.3 million over five years to prevent blindness in Ethiopia. This initiative, in collaboration with the Israeli NALA Foundation, targets trachoma, a contagious infection that can lead to blindness. The funding aims to support areas where trachoma incidence is low but could resurge without continued intervention. This effort comes in response to cuts in USAID funding, which previously supported trachoma prevention programs. The initiative will focus on education, hygiene improvements, and strengthening local health systems to sustain progress against the disease.
